November 2008
Recently, I attended the Midwest Scroll Saw Trade Show,
which I greatly enjoyed. It's so rewarding to see all the
projects on the "brag" tables, in the contest,
and in various vendor's booths. Being at the show made
me grateful for the work that we do with this magazine,
which boils down to helping you, our readers, enjoy your
hobby a bit more. For us as publishers, one of the most
satisfying experiences is seeing that the projects we present
are being made, and made beautifully at that. We provide
the patterns, but it's you who bring it all to life.
In this business, we're so busy looking for the "next" bunch of designs
for upcoming issues that sometimes we forget to "smell the roses" and
really acknowledge how wonderful this field of woodcrafting is. It's all about
having fun and finding satisfaction making something well. And then, of course,
it's always great giving hand-made gifts to friends and family!
So, we hope you enjoy this issue's project selection and that you find some items
to flesh-out on your workbench. We have some really cute Halloween projects—two
mini clocks from Whitetail Designs, Spooky Scrolled Ornaments from Dirk and Karen
Boelman, and Halloween Luminaries from Diana Thompson. We also have some last-minute
Christmas projects, as well as an innovative marbling technique from Wayne Bosler.
Thanks to you all for your support, your creativity, and your talent.
Until the
next issue, wishing you all health and happiness!
Sincerely, Robert Becker
