Welcome to the 2008 April issue!
Welcome to this edition of Creative Woodworks & Crafts! We've got some marvelous projects in this issue, in a wide array of shapes and sizes. To commemorate Easter, Dirk Boelman has designed three exquisite ornamental crosses. By enlarging or reducing these patterns, you can create attractive options—jewelry, ornaments, wallhangings, and more. Dirk has been designing for us for over fifteen years, and we continue to be amazed by the depth of his creativity.
For our previous issue, Wayne Bosler designed some antique-style appliqued bookends. In this
edition, Wayne incorporates this innovative applique technique into his wall shelf project, which really looks sharp. It's good seeing Wayne use the scroll saw to make functional items that truly convey that authentic antique appearance.
On another note, Toni Burghout and Sue Chrestensen have recently been supplying us with word-art
designs and, apparently, they have been getting very encouraging feedback from many of you. These kinds of word-oriented projects are fun to have around the home, and thus make great gifts and/or craft show items. We look forward to seeing more of their beautiful word-art designs in future issues and we welcome your suggestions for sayings that you'd like to see patterns for.

One group of contributors I want to acknowledge is Whitetail Designs, a.k.a. Bob Valle, Roy King, and Scott Kochendorfer. Since the early 90's, these guys have been very influential in the scroll saw pattern market. In 1992 they founded Scroller, Ltd. (subsequently purchased by Mike Easler, owner of The Winfield Collection), which pioneered certain forms of three-dimensional scroll saw art. Over the years they have designed and cut hundreds and hundreds of patterns, and to this day they continue creating excellent projects (heavy on wildlife), always looking for new, fresh ways to present exciting projects for the scroll saw. In this issue, they have two excellent projects—Sunfish and Cornfield Pheasant. Thanks, guys, for all you have done for scroll sawing over the years!
We also welcome a new designer to this issue, Cindy Vincett, who has provided us with her Majestic Duo pattern, depicting two tigers. The pattern was derived from a photo taken at the Big Cat Rescue Shelter in Tampa, Florida, and we thank the nice folks there for allowing us to use it.
We're excited about the work we're doing for Creative Woodworks & Crafts—we get to see many new things created on the scroll saw, and we are privileged to select projects that we hope you will enjoy making. If there are certain things you want to see more of in the magazine, please let us know. Your feedback is important to us, so please don't hesitate to share it.
Until the next issue, wishing you all health and happiness.
